Gram Parsons Derry Down presents Back at Home, a series of live-streamed shows with limited seating hosted by local music historian and a founding member of the Derry Down Project Gene Owen.
Hunter Smith is a 5th generation Central Florida native whose life has been steeped in musical history. From the day he was born, his parents surrounded him with all kinds of great music. From the family home stereo to the car and transistor radios, music was always on & Hunter was listening. His grandmother, Billie Mullins-Smith, a professional concert pianist as well as a music educator, was the one who introduced him to classical music. She also built within him the mantra, "good, better, best; never let it rest; until the good is better, and the better is best".
In his early years, artists such as James Taylor, The Beatles, Alabama, George Jones, Chicago & Ronnie Millsap were from where he drew his influence. As he grew older, his playlist ranged from such rock bands as Pearl Jam & Alice In Chains to George Strait, Garth Brooks, Brooks & Dunn, Waylon Jennings & Hank Williams Jr. But he never lost a love from the composers that his grandmother brought him up on, those being Bach, Tchaikovsky, Handel, Brahms, and Beethoven.
Hunter has always had the love of singing, but he didn't strap on a guitar until his college years. Once he picked it up, he never put it down. One of his largest passions is songwriting & he has followed that passion for over 20 years.
Regarding his "sound", Hunter bridges his love for country, singer-songwriter & rock genres with a style that touches on all three. His live performances are quite dynamic as well. You can just as easily find him quietly picking and singing in the corner of a small bar as you can find him turning it up to eleven on a festival stage kicking out the footlights. He has shared the stage with many of Country's notables, including Chris Young, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lonestar, Joe Nichols, Dierks Bentley & Sara Evans as well as some of Rock's top artists like Cheryl Crow, Creed, Switchfoot, and the list goes on...
Hunter is currently focusing on songwriting & producing and can be seen live playing solo shows as well as with his band Jill's Cashbox.
